The day has now arrived and universal credit has become a reality to benefit tenants and landlords alike…
- Bedroom Tax
Cut in benefits to those with a spare room in the house. Cut of 14% for one room and 25% for 2 spare rooms.
- Household Welfare Cap
The government is proposing to introduce a £26,000 cap on the total amount of benefits that working-age people in the UK can receive (including job seeker’s allowance, housing benefit, child benefit and carer’s allowance), limiting it to £500 a week for families, or £350 for childless single-adult households.
- Council tax benefit
Abolished and replaced it with new localised council tax support schemes, designed and administered by individual councils.
All these cuts and tenants will be getting their benefits paid monthly rather than weekly or fortnightly! So getting less benefits and less frequently. Government view is empowering the individual on benefits and create a mindset for work… Those on the ground dealing and working with these individuals, such as landlords know it’s a possible nightmare!
