Prices of family homes in London have shot up to average over £1m, Winkworth has reported.
The firm has produced for the first time a London family house price index which looks at values of houses with three to five bedrooms and some outdoor space, whether a garden or patio.
In central London, the average price for a typical family home went up 5.5% in the first six months of this year to £2.76m. Across London as a whole, the average price for a typical family house rose by 3.8% to £1.5m.
Winkworth chief executive Dominic Agace said that demand for family-size properties is such that offers are being made before property details have been issued. He said demand for three and four bedroom houses is easily outstripping supply.
