Seven local authorities have agreed to take part in a prototype being run by the Land Registry to see if their local land registry charges can be consolidated into a digital central register.
If successful, the Land Registry could provide local land charge searches alongside the title register through its existing e-channels, to a standardised price, format and turnaround time.
The local authorities involved are Sefton, Liverpool, Denbighshire, Newark and Sherwood, Swindon, Havant and Watford.
The prototype, which is due to end by December 2013, will run in parallel to the current service and if successful and the concept is approved, legislation will be required to enact the change.
Do you think this is a good idea?
